MY STORY

The challenge of a passion.

I am Gianfranco Elampini, winemaker in Valpolicella. I founded Vigna ‘800 in 2001: only one challenge, that of making good wine with the only grapes from my land, Valpolicella. Since then I have striven to cultivate grapes like they used to do, as my father Gino taught me.

I grew up in the country learning to work in the vineyard from my dad Gino.
— Gianfranco

I have always thought that making wine means spreading the culture of genuine flavours and love for one's land. A glass of wine contains the history of a territory, its origins and its growth. I sit in the shade of the vineyards and savour the year's results. nature supports me and I can transform the fruits of the vine into the renowned and appreciated wines of Valpolicella with my hands. Vigna ‘800 is named after an ancient engraved stone that emerged from the ground. The end of a century, the beginning of a new one, an era of corporate transformation but not of wine making techniques, which have been handed down with care to this day. Mine is a tribute to the history of yesterday and today. One challenge, my passion!

I like talking to you.

I like to talk to people, meet them, telling them about me and my dream, doing what I know how to do: I welcome and make those who sit at the table with me feel good, sharing the food and wine of the Venetian traditions. Storytelling is necessary to understand that each wine is the history of a vineyard, with its micro-climate characteristics and wine making methods.

To know means to experience my enthusiasm for my land first-hand. The wine will then inspire the poetry of a moment, which will be imprinted forever in your memory.

I look forward to seeing you in Valpolicella!
